Naproxen Na
Indications/Uses
Ankylosing spondylitis, OA, RA & acute gout. Mild to moderate pain eg, migraine, primary dysmenorrhoea, acute tendonitis & bursitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Analgesia, dysmenorrhoea, acute musculoskeletal conditions, acute pain states Initially 550 mg followed by 275 mg 6-8 hrly. Max: 1,375 mg daily. Acute gout Initially 825 mg followed by 275 mg 8 hrly. Menorrhagia 825-1,375 mg daily in 2 divided doses. Max: 1,100 mg. Acute migraine 825 mg at 1st symptom of impending attack, followed by 275-550 mg ≥½ hr after initial dose. Prophylaxis of migraine 550 mg bd. Max: 1,375 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Aspirin- or NSAID-induced asthma, nasal polyps. Active peptic ulcer. Childn <2 yr.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to other NSAIDs. History of GI disease (eg, ulcers, bleeding, perforation), bronchial asthma or allergic disease; coagulation disorders, CV thrombotic events, HTN, fluid retention or heart failure. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal impairment, chronic alcoholic liver disease, cirrhosis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI & CNS disturbances, allergic & haematological reactions, oedema, dyspnea, palpitations, tinnitus, visual disturbances.
Drug Interactions
ACE inhibitors, cyclosporin; diuretics; antihypertensives; phenytoin, sulfonylureas; probenecid; aspirin; lithium, MTX.
